We are proud to announce that our brilliant Ph.D. student Yujin Kim has been awarded the Grand Prize (AI Division) at the 2025 Data Innovation Competition.
We are proud to announce that our brilliant Ph.D. student Yujin Kim has been awarded the Grand Prize (AI Division) at the 2025 Data Innovation Competition.
Her project, “SAFE:ON – An Integrated Platform for Real-Time Risk Detection and Prediction,” utilized high-precision maps and urban data to develop AI prediction models that can proactively identify urban risks. The platform also evaluates potential benefits for both citizen responses on-site and policy decision-making scenarios.

This June, Dr. Lim and graduate students (Yujin Kim, Dawoon Jeong, Jounghyun Lee, Jaechang Noh) participated in the EDRA56 conference, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our team shared three papers that addressed issues of safety, accessibility, and equity in the built environment:

The conference was an inspiring opportunity to exchange ideas, engage with interdisciplinary perspectives, and discuss how design can support climate action and resilient communities. As always, it was also a meaningful time to reconnect with colleagues, meet new friends, and enjoy the local culture.

The Health Design Lab was honored to participate once again in the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) conference—this time at EDRA55 in Portland, Oregon. EDRA’s commitment to interdisciplinary and socially responsible design continues to inspire our research, and we are proud to contribute to this collective effort for creating healthier, safer, and more equitable environments.

We attended the Autumn Annual Conference of AIK(Architectural Institute of Korea) held in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do from October 25th to 27th, 2023. It was a meaningful time to gain and share knowledge about urban and architecture. Also, we came back recharged, and rested well with good people and good nature. We look forward to next year's conference!

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at KAIST and the School of Architecture at Georgia Tech hold opening ceremony for the exhibition focused on Cultivating Empathy Through Design. The works of this exhibition have resulted from an interdisciplinary sharing between students of KAIST Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Architecture Design Studio: Addressing Social Issues through Design) and the School of Architecture at Georgia Tech (Dematerializing Identity: Constructing a Kinaes-ethics of Architectures). The exhibition will run for three weeks from November 14th, and will be available anywhere through online 3D exhibition along with offline exhibition.

2022년 봄, KAIST 건설및환경공학과 학생들과 조지아공대 건축학부 학생들이 함께 우리 사회의 도움이 필요한 사람들을 위한 환경디자인 수업을 진행했습니다. 초고령화 사회의 고령자들을 위해, 아이들을 위해, 그리고 더 나아가 모두를 위한 환경이 어떻게 디자인되어야 하는가에 대한 고민과 아이디어들을 전시회를 통해 공유하고자 합니다. 전시는 11월 14일부터 3주간 진행되고, 오프라인 전시와 더불어 온라인 3D 전시를 통해 어디에서나 관람할 수 있습니다.

For the past 24 years, the EDRA Great Places Awards have sought to recognize work that combines expertise in design, research and practice and contributes to the creation of more dynamic and humane places that engage our attention and imagination.
EDRA welcomes submissions from the full breadth of environmental design and related research activities, including architecture, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, interior design, lighting design, graphic design, place-based public art, environmental psychology, sociology, anthropology, geography, and the physical sciences.
